Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) August 08, 2012

Over the past decade, alternative and complementary health therapies have increased in availability and acceptance among the general community. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Kiera Outlaw, ?this is a strong indication of a desired extension and more globalised influence on Australia's health services?. Public acceptance largely coincided with a desire for alternative lifestyles. Immigration levels and increased trade with China also had a considerable influence. The view on alternative and complementary therapies is increasingly being revisited in areas such as regulation, professional opinions of doctors, medical education curriculum and the level of research into their effectiveness. The credibility of these services has hardly been an obstacle to industry growth, nor is their growth dependent upon public dissatisfaction with traditional medical procedures. Instead, growth in the industry is largely representative of a broadening sense of personal responsibility for health. Even amid a background of uncertainty, revenue for the Alternative Health Therapies industry in Australia grew at an annualised 2.5% over the past five years. In 2012-13, revenue is forecast to increase 2.5% to total $ 3.55 billion.

Industry revenue, measured as consumer expenditure on both consultations and alternative medicines, is projected to increase at a slightly more accelerated rate in the coming five years. However, the conditions promoting this increase in revenue will be different to those over the past decade. ?There will be more competition between operators as standards are established, and a greater emphasis on creating awareness of current services as opposed to increasing the range of therapies available?, says Outlaw. The past decade proved that the market for industry services included predominantly female, well-educated, higher income earners between the ages of 50 and 59 years.

The Alternative Health Therapies industry in Australia is characterised by a low level of market share concentration. This is largely due to the significant number of different treatments that are available under the banner of alternative therapies. The majority operators are owner-managers, though it varies by service. In Australia, concentration can also be looked at in terms of competition based on qualifications of the practitioner. The number of therapists holding a bachelor degree or higher qualification (in any alternative or complementary therapy) was highest for chiropractors and osteopaths. With such a high concentration of qualified practitioners in these services, it is likely these service providers also operate with the strongest level of competition. Hence, competition represents a barrier to entry for any potential operator. The lowest level of qualified individuals is seen in naturopaths and homeopaths.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 18, 2012

Over the five years to 2012, the Homeopaths industry has grown at a rapid pace, bolstered by increasing consumer acceptance of alternative therapies such as homeopathy. Defined as the practice of alternative medicine that aims to stimulate the body's innate healing processes, an estimated 4.8 million people used homeopathy in 2006, according to a 2007 survey (most recent data available) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). IBISWorld research indicates that these numbers have only grown, with revenue generated by homeopaths projected to increase at an annualized rate of 7.6% to $ 339.9 million over the past five years, including anticipated growth of 7.2% in 2012 alone, according to IBISWorld industry analyst Anna Son.

Organizations such as the Council of Homeopathic Certification (CHC) have worked hard to create Homeopaths industry standards and licensing professionals for the practice. This helped spur demand and create an avenue for more homeopathic professionals in the United States, Son says. Over the five years to 2012, the number of industry establishments, which represents those establishments whose primary business activity is homeopathic care, has grown at an annualized rate of 3.8% to an estimated 3,914. Although significant concerns continue to exist about the legitimacy and efficacy of homeopathy 200 years after its development, a slowly growing percentage of the population is turning to industry providers for healthcare. During the five years to 2012, IBISWorld estimates that the percentage of the US adult population that uses homeopathy has increased to about 2.7%, up from 1.9% in 2007, based on data from the American Medical Association and the CDC.

Industry growth is expected to continue over the five years to 2017, albeit at a slightly slower pace than over the past five years. The industry will continue to benefit from increasingly favorable attitudes toward homeopathy. The mounting incidence of disability, the aging population and rising disposable income will significantly contribute to revenue growth. During the next five years, IBISWorld projects that revenue will increase. Growth is forecast to decelerate in 2014, though, when health insurance exchanges are set to be established in line with the healthcare reform legislation of 2010. The rising number of insured people will dampen demand as more people gain access to conventional healthcare. The Homeopaths industry is highly fragmented, much more fragmented than conventional healthcare, with no firm generating a significant share of revenue. Most establishments are sole practitioners. The principle of similars, a central homeopathic principle, states that a disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people. This industry includes solely practitioners who self-identify as homeopaths or whose primary business activity is homeopathy.

London, UK (PRWEB) July 31, 2012

The Fruit Drink & Functional Beverage Production industry has grown relatively strongly during the past five years. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Steven Connell, ?before the recession, revenue growth was supported by soaring demand for energy and sports drinks and widespread demand for healthy, premium beverages?. Growth was more muted following the financial crisis as prices fell sharply and demand for beverages declined. Industry revenue is expected to grow 2.1% in 2012-13 as the London Olympics provides a boost to sales and ongoing tight economic conditions cause value-conscious consumers to trade down from more expensive fruit juices and smoothies to fruit drinks and dilutables. In the five years through 2012-13, industry revenue is expected to increase 1.9% per annum to total ?1.85 billion.

The industry is forecast to grow solidly over the five years through 2017-18, buoyed by slowly improving economic conditions and ongoing demand for healthy, convenient beverages. Connell adds, ?demand for functional beverages will remain strong over the long term, with rising health awareness and consumer demand for natural and premium products driving product innovation and helping producers boost revenue and profitability?. There is still significant opportunity for sustained growth in the industry. Producers will need to focus marketing and innovation on emphasising the health and nutritional benefits of their products, while developing their products' environmental credentials.

The Fruit Drink & Functional Beverage Production industry demonstrates a medium level of market share concentration. Between them, the four largest players in the industry account for almost 60% of revenue. Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd is the largest firm operating in the industry, closely followed by Britvic plc. Combined, these two beverage giants generate over 40% of industry revenue. GlaxoSmithKlein, Gerber and Pepsico UK are the other major players in the industry, accounting for more than 5.0% of total revenue each.

Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) July 31, 2012

Once dominated by hamburgers and fries, the Fast Food industry has undergone a health kick over the past five years. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Steven Connell, ?the shift towards healthy eating has been driven by a rapid increase in consumer awareness about the nutritional content of fast food, a conscious effort by consumers to eat a balanced diet and an influx of healthier options by the industry's heavyweights?. Combined, these factors are estimated to lead to a 3.7% per annum rise in industry revenue over the five years through 2012-13. However, intense competition within the industry and the deteriorating economic climate has constrained industry performance. Trends in real household disposable income, the age distribution of the population, competition from convenience stores and supermarkets and growth in the variety of easy-to-prepare meals have also affected consumer demand for fast food.

Fast Food industry revenue is expected to increase by 2.6% in 2012-13, to reach $ 15.8 billion. However, a decline in consumer sentiment could have a mixed effect on the industry. On the one hand, consumers will seek value for money in fast-food meal purchases and some may trade down food purchases in favour of lower priced meal options. However, many consumers view fast food as an affordable luxury, as indicated by the industry's strong revenue growth during the height of the global economic downturn. Connell adds, ?retailers will respond by placing greater focus on their food offers?. Sales growth will also be spurred by the rising popularity of 'iFast', a fast-food application for iPhone, iPod and iPad users. This is expected to revolutionise the industry and boost the convenience with which fast food can be ordered. Market share concentration in the Fast Food industry is high and fast-food operators have been subject to increasing levels of concentration over the past five years. Major players in the industry include McDonald's Australia Holdings Limited, Yum! Restaurants Australia Pty Limited, Competitive Foods Australia Pty Ltd and Domino's Pizza Enterprises Limited.

Consumer demand for value, convenience and nutritious food is expected to drive Fast Food industry performance over the five years through 2017-18. Despite continued competition from supermarkets and convenience stores, industry sales will benefit from an increased focus on healthy eating. Fast-food retailers will focus on providing consumers with an evolving and adaptable product selection. This is expected to result in increased revenue over the next five years. Increases in real household disposable income and changes in the age distribution of the population are also expected to drive demand for fast food.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2012

Businesses are increasingly outsourcing their information technology (IT) infrastructure needs, which has benefited the Data Processing and Hosting Services industry. This industry provides infrastructure for hosting or data processing services used for a variety of IT-related activities, ranging from web hosting to automated data entry services. The industry fared well during the past five years, with revenue growing at an annualized rate of 2.4% to $ 81.3 billion in 2012. In 2012, IBISWorld expects revenue to grow 5.9%, reflecting a stronger economy and an increase in the use of industry products by companies. ?Growth was spurred by investment in outsourcing application hosting to specialized firms as an alternative to local hosting of enterprise software during the five years to 2012,? said IBISWorld industry analyst Andrew Krabeepetcharat. Because revenue depends on subscriptions, the pullback of IT spending during the recession slowed the rate of revenue growth. Spending has picked up since 2007, and it is expected to grow even faster in 2012 as firms increasingly outsource their IT needs to third parties.

Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity is anticipated to increase during the next five years as industry firms consolidate to reduce redundancies and increase the subscriber base over which they can allocate computing resources. Also, supply disruptions in the hardware space (e.g. the flooding of hard-drive manufacturing plants in Thailand during 2011) may push companies that managed their IT infrastructure needs in-house to opt for a third-party provider. Other factors will also play into growth in the coming years. Consolidation within other industries will push businesses to outsource their IT needs as systems become too complex to maintain in-house. At the same time, the exponential growth in complexity as scale grows, will increase the level of expertise needed to effectively manage large data centers. As firms begin capturing more data, they will increasingly require outside expertise to manage their data collection, hosting and processing. As a result, revenue is forecast to grow at an through 2017.

In 2012, IBISWorld estimates that the four largest operators in the Data Processing and Hosting Services industry will account for an estimated 33.6% of industry revenue. According to Krabeepetcharat, the level of concentration in the industry is low, primarily due to the range of services that data processing and hosting service companies can provide. In terms of the size of establishments according to staff levels, the industry is highly fragmented, with 56.9% of all establishments employing fewer than five people in 2012. Large establishments of 100 or more employees represent just 8.6% of the industry. These numbers may be skewed due to outsourcing; some firms may have more employees overseas that are not included in the data for this industry. Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2012

The performance of the Perfume and Fragrance Manufacturing industry is largely dictated by trends in consumer spending. Perfume is a highly discretionary purchase for most Americans, so as spending power falls, so does demand for the industry's products. ?During the recession, unemployment skyrocketed, leading to a decline in per capita disposable income; consequently, industry revenue declined,? said IBISWorld industry analyst Nikoleta Panteva. However, as incomes have inched up, so has demand for perfume and fragrance products. Over the five-year period to 2012, industry revenue has grown at an average annual rate of 1.9%, including a strong 6.3% gain expected in 2012 alone, to reach $ 3.9 billion. Profit has followed a trend similar to that of revenue. As consumer purchasing power waned during the recession, shoppers opted for lower-priced fragrances, which reduced the industry's profit margins. Rebounding spending and consumers' need small luxuries have helped profit rebound strongly over the past three years.

A general consumer trend toward choosing specialty beauty supply stores over department stores has also emerged over the past five years. Specialty stores' customer service and product offerings have generated demand from consumers. Export growth has also been a defining trait of the Perfume and Fragrance Manufacturing industry as players look to expand their markets. Over the five years to 2012, exports have increased at an average annual rate of 5.4% to $ 1.4 billion, or 36.8% of industry revenue. Exports are projected to continue contributing to industry revenue growth over the five years to 2017. Coupled with rebounding consumer spending power, exports are anticipated to push industry revenue up. With consumer budgets expanding, industry players are likely to benefit from higher-priced purchases, which will ultimately boost profitability as well.

The Perfume and Fragrance Manufacturing industry has a moderate level of market share concentration. IBISWorld estimates that the top four industry companies will hold a combined share of about 45.9% of total industry revenue in 2012. The level of industry concentration is gradually increasing. In the five years to 2012, the number of industry enterprises has fallen at an average annual rate of 1.4% to total 98 companies. According to Panteva, while there are a number of small players in the industry specializing in a small number of product lines to serve niche markets, major players in the industry will continue to expand and gain greater market control. For more information, visit IBISWorld?s Perfume & Fragrance Manufacturing in the US industry report page.

Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) May 25, 2012

The Water Supply industry in Australia is expected to generate revenue of $ 9.87 billion in 2011-12, growing an annualized 9.3% over the past five years. Although severe drought conditions reduced water consumption during much of this period, the effect of this dry spell on revenue was more than offset by substantial increases in water prices. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Kate Convey, ?industry revenue is forecast to expand by 10.7% in 2011-12, as prices are increased well ahead of inflation?. Higher revenue is required to maintain existing industry infrastructure (much of which has been put under additional strain by protracted dry conditions), fund ongoing infrastructure development and to develop new water sources. Although low rainfall and drought conditions in several states have curtailed growth in the volume of water supplied by the industry, its infrastructure spending requirements continue to grow, requiring higher revenue, and in turn, higher water prices.

The Water Supply industry is dominated by state government-owned corporations, but public-private funding mechanisms are becoming more commonplace for large infrastructure developments, including major water treatment plants and desalination facilities. ?The Water Supply industry is highly concentrated within each state, with only a small number of government-owned organisations accounting for the great bulk of operations?, Convey said. However, over the country as a whole, the market share concentration level is moderate. Industry concentration has remained stable over the past five years. Major companies in the industry include Water Corporation, Sydney Water, South Australian Water, Yarra Valley Water and South East Water.

The next five years will be challenging for the Water Supply industry, given the trend towards less reliable rainfall and the need to develop alternative sources of water, including desalination plants. Industry revenue is expected to increase and industry participants will require robust profit margins in order to provide for capital spending.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 30, 2012

In spite of the recession, the Beauty Supply Stores industry continued to expand over the five years to 2012. The industry includes specialty beauty shops, which distribute either professional- or consumer-marketed cosmetics, hair, nail and skin care products. A high level of product introductions at the manufacturing level and an expanded target market of salon professionals enabled industry revenue to grow at an average annual rate of 0.4% over the five years to 2012. The slow pace of growth over the five-year period is primarily due to weak performance during the economic downturn; in 2008 and 2009, revenue contracted an estimated 0.7% and 2.6%, respectively, as lower per capita disposable income led consumers to purchase cosmetics and beauty care items at discount retailers. In 2012, according to IBISWorld industry analyst Caitlin Moldvay, ?the Beauty Supply Stores industry is expected to post growth as expanding per capita disposable income enables consumers to increasingly splurge on higher-value items at both the retail and salon level.?

Over the five-year period, the overall size of the industry grew, with the number of industry operators expanding at an average annual rate of 1.2%. Beauty supply stores offered a wider array of products over the period, expanding their lines of men's grooming products and teen-oriented products in particular. ?However,? says Moldvay, ?profit margins for the Beauty Supply Stores industry declined over the five-year period as retailers cut prices during the recession and slow recovery period in order to appeal to increasingly price-conscious consumers.? The industry is moderately concentrated, with the two major players ? Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. and Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc. ? controlling almost half of the market.

Over the next five years, industry revenue is projected to post stronger returns. As the economic recovery continues to gain steam, consumers' purchasing power will increase, allowing them to purchase higher-value items. Furthermore, the proliferation of naturally derived products is expected to generate new growth for the industry, as cosmetic and beauty product manufacturers unveil new eco-friendly product lines to appeal to changing consumer preferences. Industry revenue growth is forecast to be highest in the early years of the period, as the Chinese economy continues to recover from the global financial crisis. In 2012, industry revenue is forecast to increase by 8.0%. By 2016, industry revenue is expected to have slowed to 5.8% growth for the year, according to IBISWorld, America?s largest publisher of industry research.
